This week we have a VST effect and two drum sample kits. =D
For those needing a piano in a pinch, here’s a nice little piano VST, courtesy of DSK. There’s 3 different presets, Grand Piano, Concert Piano F, and Concert Piano P, as well as customizable tone/filter controls which include an envelope, reverb, flanger, and a filter that can be switched from low-pass to high pass.
For all you drum collectors, I have a kit that was in a folder called “hip-hop/rap,” and just to give it a better name I called it the 5 Borough Havoc Kit. There’s a couple of drum sounds in there that remind me of tracks from Mobb Deep’s most famous album, The Infamous, so that’s how I came up with the name.
There’s over 600+ drums in there, so go crazy.
Head on out to our Production Vault and get the VSTi today!

Here’s a dope Jay-Z T-Shirt from the good folks at United Five (no relation to 5Fam, name is a coincidence). My personal favorite rapper ever, he’s withstood the test time. From his Original Flavor days with “Can I Get Open” and “I Can’t Get With That” to “On to the Next One” and “Empire State of Mind,” the evolution of Jay has kept him at the top (or near the top) of almost everyone’s top 5 list since the early to mid 90′s. His wittiness, effortless flow and good ear for beats are coupled with an uncanny business mind (Roc-A-Fella and Roc Nation Records, Rocawear and being part owner of the Nets come to mind) that has made him one of the most successful (both musically and financially) entertainers of our generation.
United Five’s description of the shirt:
From driving some of the hottest cars New York has ever seen, to dropping some of the hottest verses rap has ever heard; from moving snowflakes by the O-Z to checking cheddar like a food inspector, you either love him or leave him alone. Jay-Z a.k.a. Young Hova is arguably one of the greatest rappers of all time, and United Five pays homage with this tee to one of Brooklyn’s finest. Jay-Z, Forever Young.
All t-shirts are screen printed by hand using soft to the touch inks.
100% Combed Ring spun Cotton. Super-soft, lightweight, slim-fit tee. Machine washable and preshrunk to minimize shrinkage.
You can check their website at http://www.united-five.com, or go directly to their shop at http://shop.united-five.com. I personally have the United Five Biggie Babe Ruth t-shirt as well as their Crooklyn shirt. Aside from the nice designs, they’re good quality; I’ve washed them quite a few times since with no signs of wear and tear.
From what I understand, the name of “United Five” comes from the five boroughs of New York, so you’ll see some borough specific tees as well as some that represent all five. So if you rep the city hard, you may want to grab these shirts to show your solidarity.
More to come, so stay tuned!

Behind the vault door today, we have a pretty big kit for you!
This kit comes from DJay Cas, a producer who has production credits with well-known artists such as Young Jeezy, Paul Wall, Yung La, Ice Cube, and others. Although this kit doesn’t contain original drums that he has created/recorded/tweaked, he put it together from his stash for the sake of others to use.
He dropped this kit a long time ago on The RapMusic.com Boards, and for me it’s been quite useful. The marching band stuff, though few in number, were great to me and provided a different yet pleasing sound for kicks and snares. The vox folder also has some good vocal cuts to help hype up your records; many of which you’ve heard on hit records, from hey’s to ow’s and oh’s.
At 701 samples, this kit should definitely keep you occupied for your next several production endeavors.
Make sure you follow Djay Cas at http://www.twitter.com/djaycas!

So what’s in the vault today?
For fans of Neptunes production (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo), we have this drum kit in the vault. This kit has very hard and bassy kicks, with unique snare sounds and percussion. Some of these have been processed through different effects to match what you would tend to hear from a Neptunes beat. Although lighter than the last few kits, this one still has more than 400 drum samples for you to mess around with.
Thanks to Bully Beats for giving me half of the drums in this kit! For those who haven’t heard of Bully Beats, he has had production credits with Panjabi MC (of Beware of the Boys [Mundian To Bach Ke] with Jay-Z fame) and D-Block affiliates.

Producers are lining up waiting… =D
Another decent sized kit, weighing in at over 500 samples. This one’s focused more on a East Coast sound. Even though I feel these can be used for any type of hip-hop if used properly, whoever classified these initially felt it best for East Coast sounds so we’ll go with that. These drums have a nice feel to them with a hint of aggression.
There are two different sets that are focused on “East Coast” on here. The first kit is the bigger kit, with separate folders for kicks, snares, hats, claps, percussion, and cymbals. The second kit is smaller, but also includes some toned instrument sounds and effects.
