Today we have the discontinued Antares Tube VST, which gives your tracks tube warmth. The sonic subtleties of vacuum tubes are desired in music because of the warmth that they give recordings. They are found in tube microphones and preamps specifically for that purpose. This particular plugin has two different tube settings (an angel for some warmth and a devil for an overdriven effect) as well as a drive setting for a little bit of customization.

The Mad FX Kit has got a bunch of dirty drum sounds as well as some strings, organs, vocal samples and different types of sound effects.

Also included in this bundle is the voc-one VSTi which is a simple choir VSTi. It’s no Symphonic Choirs VSTi (a beastly VSTi, I might add), but it can get the job done in a pinch. There are controls in it to also change the vowel sounds of the voices to give you some extra leverage, as well as reverb, breath, and different tonal controls.

We have a bit of a hybrid bundle this week. Going back to our drum roots, we’ve got a decently sized kit of over 1,100 samples. The Banging Beats kit has over 200 kicks, 350 snares, and over 150 hats, plus some guitar, horn, string and piano samples. It should keep you busy for a while.

Also with this kit are VSTi’s from TWEAKBENCH. TWEAKBENCH offers the VSTi’s that are contained in this bundle for free on their site, http://www.tweakbench.com, and they also do VST effects.

For those who need a quick 8-bit video game sound, the Triforce VSTi or Peach VSTi would be great. There’s also a mellotron style synth called Tapeworm, a bass synth called Ritual and more. One VSTi that I thought was particularly nifty was the Field VSTi, which comes with 10 different sound ambiances that you could plug directly into your track that you can mix and match, all at good quality.

Here’s another kit from the Urban Fire series, which is most of the same style as 4, but there are some extra things in here that make it unique. There’s a Middle Eastern folder with some ethnic perc sounds, amongst other things. The Machina-Ren folder is pretty interesting as well, as it’s a shoutout to the popular SR-16 Drum Machine by Alesis. The Lazy Claps folder also has some interesting clap sounds that may fit certain styles.

We have two kits (and a small bonus) with this week’s bundle, and it consists of the SIHD 1 kit and the Thug Poet kit.

Thug Poet is a producer who has worked with Torch from Triple C’s (Carol City Cartel of Rick Ross fame), Devin the Dude, Beeda Weeda, Chuwee from The Usual Suspects, Lefty Thefty, and others. He provided us with a kit that, although small in number, will get the job done in many boom-bap style cases. The drums come with a slightly noticeable hiss on them to give you that feel of old school vinyl, and the kicks have a hard punch to them. One thing you may notice is a lack of hats, but you can fill those in with either hats from the other kit in the bundle, or (what I think would be a great fit) would be the Deadly or Filthy Drum kit hats, also available in the vault.

The other kit is the SIHD 1 kit, which is a great kit with very clear sounding drums, which I guess is indicative by the HD in the name of the kit. This gives you some flexibility to go from newer styles where crystal clear recording studio quality is desired, or you can filter it up yourself and dirty it up for that old school flavor. There are some awesome punchy kicks in this kit that I personally use, and I’m sure you can find a use for them as well.

This kit has some interesting sounds in it, and is definitely geared more towards the modern-day synthy producer as opposed to the classic boom-bap of old. There are some lo-fi drums in here, but I still feel they lack the realism for a good Premo or Pete Rock style beat. There are premade vinyl and tape sounds in one of the folders though that could help aid in that old school flavor if you want to go that route.

These drums will work best for south stuff that usually take the synthy 808 style drums sounds, as well as club bangers. Of course, these are just my recommendations, but you may find a different and possibly better use for them. With over 800+ samples to choose from, you should find a home for these.

With over 1500 drum samples, this is our largest kit uploaded to date, and is our most comprehensive. The usual stuff is in there (kicks, snares, hats), and you even get claps, castinets, various effects, percussion, tambourines, shakers, snaps, chimes, and more.

I’m guessing it’s called the MPC3000 for the vintage Akai sampler, but I don’t know if it’s a sound set from the unit itself or bundled, or whether it’s inspired from sounds that came with it. As I mentioned in a previous post for the vault for the MPC-2000XL kit, producers such as DJ Premier and Evil Dee of the Beatminerz are very big into the MPC’s.

This kit packs 700+ samples, and a good thing about this kit is that it includes more than just drums. There’s some saxophone samples, guitar samples, organ samples, horns and more.  If you can’t get your hands on VSTi’s, the instrument samples can be useful in a pinch.

Another one of my favorite producers, Dre is notorious for that West Coast gangsta funk rap music of the 90′s. Interestingly enough, on this kit some of the drums are slightly delayed (in the time sense, not the effect like an echo) to somewhat capture how doc’s drums are not always precisely on beat to capture a bit of that funk.

I am aware that there is a Dre-mendous kit out there, and I haven’t verified that these three kits are the same. It would seem likely though since there are 3 volumes in this bundle as well.

At over 700 samples, how can you go wrong? Start working on that bounce today by getting your drum foundation correct.

This bundle has three kits. The first two are inspired by two of the most legendary producers of hip-hop, DJ Premier and Pete Rock. Both of these kits contain dirty vinyl laced drums and some small instrument hits that are reminiscent of their styles. The Pete Rock one has some horn hits that give you a hint of Soul Brother #1.

The third kit is a huge kit, and it’s a collection of drums I’ve cut from hip-hop tracks and other genres over the years. They range from Queen’s “We Will Rock You” to various Neptunes-produced songs, to “Cupid” by 112, to many others.

The kit weighs in at 571 samples, so I’m sure you producers out there can put these to great use.
