MsP Production Vault: Dr. Dre Drum Kits

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

It’s PVW [Production Vault Wednesday]! =]

Another one of my favorite producers, Dre is notorious for that West Coast gangsta funk rap music of the 90′s. Interestingly enough, on this kit some of the drums are slightly delayed (in the time sense, not the effect like an echo) to somewhat capture how doc’s drums are not always precisely on beat to capture a bit of that funk.

I am aware that there is a Dre-mendous kit out there, and I haven’t verified that these three kits are the same. It would seem likely though since there are 3 volumes in this bundle as well.

At over 700 samples, how can you go wrong? Start working on that bounce today by getting your drum foundation correct.

MsP Production Vault: DJ Premier, Pete Rock and Already Used Other Producer Drums

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Here we are with another Production Vault Wednesday. =]

This bundle has three kits. The first two are inspired by two of the most legendary producers of hip-hop, DJ Premier and Pete Rock. Both of these kits contain dirty vinyl laced drums and some small instrument hits that are reminiscent of their styles. The Pete Rock one has some horn hits that give you a hint of Soul Brother #1.

The third kit is a huge kit, and it’s a collection of drums I’ve cut from hip-hop tracks and other genres over the years. They range from Queen’s “We Will Rock You” to various Neptunes-produced songs, to “Cupid” by 112, to many others.

The kit weighs in at 571 samples, so I’m sure you producers out there can put these to great use.

MsP Production Vault: eLab Drum Kit

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Here we are with another Production Vault Wednesday. =]

This kit is HUGE. There are over 1400 samples in this kit, and it’s safe to say that a majority of your drums and percussion needs would be covered with this kit alone. Aside from the standard kick, snare, hats and claps folders, you have folders for crash cymbals, ride cymbals, separate folders for open and close hats, rimshots, shakers, tambourines, toms and congas.

This is the biggest kit we have put up to date, and there’s more out there still to share from the vault in the coming weeks.

MsP Production Vault: West Coast Hip-Hop Kits

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Here we are with another Production Vault Wednesday. =]

A few weeks back we were in New York, and now we fly over to LA and hit you with these kits. Again, I feel that these drums can be used for a variety of applications, but they were categorized as west coast by the originator.

On the second kit that’s on here, there’s an instrument folder that definitely has a west coast feel to them. The bass sounds as well as the wah-wah’d guitars and other sounds should give you that g-funk sound you need for that west coast bounce, similar to that mid 90′s Dr. Dre sound.

This bundle weighs in at a little less than 500 samples, so it should keep you busy for a while.

“West Side” Story…

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Just a few notes from me re: Roll Call ’10.

Pipe organs – check.

Plucked chord drops – check.

Epic strings – check.

Dirty drums – check.

Long Beach to Compton – check.

1995 – check.

Ice Cube – check.

If you haven’t picked up on it yet, I have scored and am producing a hip-hop track (yes, hip-hop) on the MsP collaboration album Roll Call ’10.  It has the flavor of an old-school, mid-’90′s, West Coast track.  It’s not really a “Gangsta” track, though the theme for the song will be gang related, but only to a degree.

We don’t really want to give away too much on the content of the song but what we can tell you is that it will not be POV – the lyrics will be from 2 bystanders/observers.  The track WILL play on your state of mind and you WILL feel like you just watched some psychological drama.  Beyond that, you’ll have to wait and see.

Last night (4.4.10/Easter Sunday)  MooN ShynE and I discussed how this track should progress and we came up with some interesting ideas as far as the “theme” of the song.

This track will feature:
MooN ShynE – vocals / mixing / mastering / arrangement
K-Maculate – vocals
ADM – producer / composer / storyline (partial)

I would appreciate MooN ShynE’s input on this as well…

That’s it for now………
