I’m currently in my Music Theory II class, and I’m hoping to use some of the techniques and pointers I’ve been learning in the class into my music. For reference, here are the appropriate ranges for singing voices as outlined in class:
Soprano: C4 – G5
Alto: G3 – D5
Tenor: D3 – G4
Bass: C2 – C4
These ranges are a little flexible, as I’ve seen other sources have these ranges expanded, at the most, by a full step in one or both directions. You can use these ranges to determine whether or not the key that you are writing in will fit with a particular singer if you know their range.

This week we have a bass VSTi. =D
Widely regarded as one of the best solutions for bass, Spectrasonics discontinued this product upon releasing the much more feature-packed Trillian. Since you can’t get this one in the stores anymore (you’re lucky if you can find one in the area that still has it in stock, and Spectrasonics themselves isn’t selling it), it’s now up on the Production Vault.
So if you need bass with a lot of different options, this is the VSTi you’ve been looking for.
NOTE: Inside the RAR file you’ll find a .nrg file which is a DVD image. You can either burn the .nrg image into a DVD or use MagicISO or something similar to open the files within.

This week we have a multi-use VSTi. =D
This very versatile VSTi has got a ton of great sounds that can help you out with your projects. Since the product is fully discontinued and is not available anywhere anymore for purchase, I’ve put it up in the vault to allow those who are need of a versatile VSTi to grab this one for free.
My personal favorites in this particular VSTi are the Brass and Orchestral presets. The Orchestral side has Spicatto strings that sound pretty realistic in terms of how they sound when the player brings the bow upward or downward.
For an example of the spicatto strings and the brass (particularly the French Horns in this song) you can listen to Black and Blue Ink.’s song Insurgency.

This week we have a VSTi. =D
Don’t let the small size of this synth fool you. This little monster comes with a lot of presets and editable filters that can prove to be very, very useful. If you listen to some of Timbaland’s production from a few years back (circa 2007) you can hear sounds/arps/gates very similar to what you can find on this particular VSTi. If you’re a fan of that Timbaland style, this Vanguard VSTi will very much come in handy.

It’s PVW [Production Vault Wednesday]! =]
This kit packs 700+ samples, and a good thing about this kit is that it includes more than just drums. There’s some saxophone samples, guitar samples, organ samples, horns and more. If you can’t get your hands on VSTi’s, the instrument samples can be useful in a pinch.
