MsP Beats Section Update: Rich Like Me [Who's Your Daddy]

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Starting this week, on every other Wednesday we’re going to be uploading a new beat into the beats section, so hopefully you artists out there, whether rap or otherwise, will find something you guys need.

This week, we have a beat called “Rich Like Me [Who's Your Daddy].”

The type of song I envision on this beat is purely about swag and riches. For all of you rappers out there who are trying to show these small money chumps up to grab their lady, then this one’s for you. Sampled from the classic song by The Zombies, “Time of the Season,” this track just exudes swag and money.

MsP Production Vault: MPC-3000 Kit

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Producers… come out to play… =D

With over 1500 drum samples, this is our largest kit uploaded to date, and is our most comprehensive. The usual stuff is in there (kicks, snares, hats), and you even get claps, castinets, various effects, percussion, tambourines, shakers, snaps, chimes, and more.

I’m guessing it’s called the MPC3000 for the vintage Akai sampler, but I don’t know if it’s a sound set from the unit itself or bundled, or whether it’s inspired from sounds that came with it. As I mentioned in a previous post for the vault for the MPC-2000XL kit, producers such as DJ Premier and Evil Dee of the Beatminerz are very big into the MPC’s.

Freshness: Jay-Z, King Hova, Forever Young T-Shirt

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

United Five Jay-Z a.k.a. Young Hova T-ShirtHere’s a dope Jay-Z T-Shirt from the good folks at United Five (no relation to 5Fam, name is a coincidence).  My personal favorite rapper ever, he’s withstood the test time. From his Original Flavor days with “Can I Get Open” and “I Can’t Get With That” to “On to the Next One” and “Empire State of Mind,” the evolution of Jay has kept him at the top (or near the top) of almost everyone’s top 5 list since the early to mid 90′s. His wittiness, effortless flow and good ear for beats are coupled with an uncanny business mind (Roc-A-Fella and Roc Nation Records, Rocawear and being part owner of the Nets come to mind) that has made him one of the most successful (both musically and financially) entertainers of our generation.

United Five’s description of the shirt:

From driving some of the hottest cars New York has ever seen, to dropping some of the hottest verses rap has ever heard; from moving snowflakes by the O-Z to checking cheddar like a food inspector, you either love him or leave him alone. Jay-Z a.k.a. Young Hova is arguably one of the greatest rappers of all time, and United Five pays homage with this tee to one of Brooklyn’s finest. Jay-Z, Forever Young.

All t-shirts are screen printed by hand using soft to the touch inks.
100% Combed Ring spun Cotton. Super-soft, lightweight, slim-fit tee. Machine washable and preshrunk to minimize shrinkage.

You can check their website at http://www.united-five.com, or go directly to their shop at http://shop.united-five.com.  I personally have the United Five Biggie Babe Ruth t-shirt as well as their Crooklyn shirt.  Aside from the nice designs, they’re good quality; I’ve washed them quite a few times since with no signs of wear and tear.

From what I understand, the name of “United Five” comes from the five boroughs of New York, so you’ll see some borough specific tees as well as some that represent all five.  So if you rep the city hard, you may want to grab these shirts to show your solidarity.

More to come, so stay tuned!

It’s PVW [Production Vault Wednesday]! =]

This kit packs 700+ samples, and a good thing about this kit is that it includes more than just drums. There’s some saxophone samples, guitar samples, organ samples, horns and more.  If you can’t get your hands on VSTi’s, the instrument samples can be useful in a pinch.
